Janina Dizon Hoschka was born into a family of jewellers: her grandmother, Paz Bañas, established a jewellery store in the old quarters of Manila in the 1940s. Manila’s then confluence of Spanish, Chinese and Malay design traditions provided the inspirations for Paz’ unique designs, steeped in century-old traditions of local craftsmen. Janina’s mother, Jul Dizon, followed in her mother’s footsteps and has won numerous local and international awards, including the prestigious De Beers International Diamond Competition, the “Oscars” of the jewellery industry.

Being firmly rooted in her family’s passion for creating unique handmade masterpieces, Janina belongs to the third generation of jewellery designers, together
with her siblings who are all active in the trade. Raised in Manila and Los Angeles, she trained as a jewellery designer, apprenticed with a leading Israeli diamond distributor, and graduated with a degree from the prestigious Gemological Institute of America. A three-time finalist in the renowned De Beers Diamond International Awards, she joined the family business in 1991 and opened “Janina” at the Peninsula Hotel Manila in 2007.
